Job Description

Position: Chef

Overview

Some jobs are ordinary. This one’s extraordinary.

At Chop Steakhouse & Bar, we believe leadership is more than managing — it’s creating something exceptional together. If you’re a passionate culinary leader who loves the heat of a busy kitchen, thrives on excellence, and wants to take ownership of something bigger, this is your moment.

We’re looking for a Chef & Operating Partner to lead our back-of-house operations at Chop Coal Harbour (targeted opening May 2026). You’ll be the heart of the kitchen, a mentor to your team, and a strategic partner driving growth, quality, and profitability.

What You’ll Do Business & Financial Leadership

  • Lead the culinary operation as both a chef and business partner, owning results alongside the General Manager.
  • Manage all food and labour costs, budgets, and inventory with precision and accountability.
  • Set, track, and achieve key performance targets — from guest satisfaction to profitability.
  • Forecast and schedule effectively to balance excellence and efficiency.
  • Maintain impeccable standards in food quality, safety, and compliance.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Inspire, train, and grow a passionate culinary team that delivers every plate with pride.
  • Coach your leaders and cooks to thrive under pressure and perform at their best.
  • Build a culture of mentorship, respect, and professionalism that keeps your team motivated and engaged.
  • Partner with the General Manager to align on staffing, training, and performance goals.
  • Model Chop’s values in everything you do — from daily communication to long-term strategy.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations — from prep to plating — with consistency and excellence.
  • Ensure seamless collaboration between front and back of house.
  • Maintain high standards for cleanliness, maintenance, and organization.
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of industry trends and bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table.
  • Support the ownership and operations team with special projects, business planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience as an Executive Chef, Culinary Leader, or equivalent in a high-volume, premium dining environment
  • Proven success in leading teams and managing business performance
  • Deep knowledge of food costing, labour controls, and operational systems
  • Strong communication skills — both on the line and in the boardroom
  • A passion for hospitality and a love for people
  • High energy, humor, and a can-do attitude
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Excel (an asset)
  • Commitment to food safety, team mentorship, and continuous growth

Compensation & Ownership

Total Compensation: $75,000-$100,000

Includes salary and bonus

Perks & Benefits

  • Extended Health & Dental Benefits
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 2 weeks paid vacation
  • Cell phone allowance
  • Wardrobe expense
  • Store discount
  • Complimentary leadership meals
  • Opportunity for share ownership
  • Company conferences & international trips
  • Personal development and leadership sessions
