Job Description and Duties

Assists the Conservationist Supervisor with developing and coordination of reimbursement project, including sponsors engagement. Assists in administering all Corpsmember Development programs including but not limited to COMET orientation, high school, center-based trainings, Conservation Awareness Program (CAP), Career Development, scholarships, room inspections, volunteer opportunities. Coordinates CM Corrective Action program.

Ensures timely completion of all required daily and monthly documentation. Assists with development of Job Hazard Analyses, enforcement of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program. May act as lead over Conservationist 1 staff on project work.

Implements the Alcohol and Other Drugs Program (ADP). Assists in Corpsmember transitions including transfers, extensions and special program applications.

This position may be required to supervise a Type 1 Fire Crew as needed. Responds to natural disasters such as floods, fires or pest infestations.  Assists the further educational development of corpsmembers during evening and weekends, if assigned.

Working Conditions

This position will report to the  Magalia Fire Center located at 6640 Steiffer Road, Magalia, CA 95954

Working conditions and locations for this position will vary. You could be working indoors or outdoors, in remote or urban areas. While working at the Center you'll find offices, structured spaces, and ergonomic furniture. Working outdoors brings exposure to the elements, varying temperatures, and physical demands, while offering a refreshing change of scenery and connection to nature alongside the corpsmembers.

During fire season, you may be deployed to a fire camp for periods of up to 21 days, presenting an excellent opportunity for overtime.  

Please note that this position is classified as “In Office” and is not eligible for telework.

Special Requirements

Class C Commercial License – Provide evidence that a Class C Commercial license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Pre-employment Drug Test – In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test.

Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

Medical Exam - A medical clearance exam is required for this classification.

Grooming Standards- Must be in compliance with Magalia Fire Center grooming standards. (A copy of the Magalia Fire Center Grooming standards will be provided upon appointment).

Note- Candidates will be required to pass the following trainings upon appointment

CalFire Type I Fire Training Program- Position requires successful completion of the CalFire Type I 80-hour Fire training program. This includes a vigorous physical fitness portion of the training.
