Major, Lindsey & Africa has an immediate need for Corporate Counsel with Construction Law Expertise.

Overview : Our client is looking for an experienced Corporate Counsel with Construction Law Expertise.

Company: US-Based Multifaceted Construction Company.

Experience: Up to 8 years, NYC Construction Law.

Location: 5 days in Office (Financial District).

Our client is a growing enterprise that builds, operates, and invests in industries and businesses that work daily to transform communities and improve individual lives. The Corporate Counsel will operate as part of an in-house legal team to provide legal support to client, specifically related to large-scale public construction projects in New York. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction law, contract negotiation, and public sector projects, with specific experience in dealing with New York City agencies and contracts. This role will involve providing legal guidance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and facilitating smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice to project teams regarding construction and design-build regulations, municipal codes, and public procurement laws specific to New York.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, ensuring terms are favorable and compliant with applicable laws and local, state and federal requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement legal strategies strategies to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all project activities adhere to federal, state, and local laws, including environmental regulations and labor laws.
  • Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve any legal disputes or claims arising during the project, utilizing mediation, arbitration, or litigation as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with governmental agencies, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate legal aspects of project progress. Manage and maintain internal client relationships, providing exceptional service and ensuring satisfaction with the legal team.
  • Research: Stay informed of and advise on legal, regulatory, and industry developments that may impact Company operations and maintain thorough documentation of all legal proceedings, correspondence, and decisions related operations on New York projects.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in the state of New York (active and in good standing).
  • Up to8 years of experience in construction law or related legal field, with a focus on construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in public sector projects and familiarity with New York City and New York State regulations, agencies, and contract management.
  • Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction related certification a plus (eg Assoc. DBIA)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactions with minimal supervision, including experience leading negotiations and coordinating teams of professionals.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain client relationships and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to professional development, staying current with legal developments, and a desire to contribute to the growth and success of the company.
  • Previous experience with large-scale infrastructure projects.
