Healthcare Construction Superintendent – Houston Area

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Construction Superintendent to oversee the construction of healthcare facilities in the Houston area. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing healthcare construction projects from ground-up to completion, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance with healthcare regulations. As a key leader on the project team, the Healthcare Construction Superintendent will play a critical role in managing site operations, subcontractors, and the overall progress of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Supervision: Oversee the daily operations of the healthcare construction site, managing all phases of construction from mobilization to final occupancy.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce and ensure adherence to all safety regulations and healthcare-specific building codes. Conduct regular safety audits, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and healthcare-specific protocols.
  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain a detailed project schedule, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and any delays are proactively addressed.
  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality of construction work, ensuring all activities meet the required healthcare standards, including those specific to patient care, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate all on-site construction teams, including subcontractors, vendors, and laborers. Provide guidance, direction, and support to ensure productivity and adherence to schedules.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project progress, potential challenges, and solutions.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Manage and oversee subcontractors, ensuring they are working according to specifications, timelines, and safety standards.
  • Logistics Management: Ensure materials, equipment, and manpower are available on-site to maintain project momentum. Address any logistical challenges that may arise.
  • Document Control: Review construction drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure the project is being executed as planned. Maintain accurate project documentation for future reference and compliance.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks to the project timeline or safety and develop effective solutions to mitigate those risks.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent or similar role in healthcare or commercial construction, with hands-on experience in healthcare facility construction (hospital, medical office buildings, clinics, etc.).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred, but not required).
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required); additional certifications in healthcare construction (e.g., Healthcare Construction Specialist, LEED) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Standards: Familiarity with healthcare construction codes, guidelines (e.g., FGI, NFPA, and JCAHO), and hospital design and construction requirements.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address issues swiftly and efficiently, minimizing project disruption and ensuring continuity.
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure quality control and adherence to safety and building standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or LEED AP certification.
  • Experience with hospital/medical facility renovations or expansions.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, Prolog).
  • Strong understanding of budget management and cost control.

Travel Requirements:

  • Local travel within Houston and surrounding areas for site visits.
