Job Description

The Lead Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction efforts on complex, large-scale healthcare projects—or multiple concurrent healthcare projects—to ensure safety, quality, adherence to design, budget, and schedule. This leadership role involves directly supervising and mentoring on-site Superintendents, collaborating closely with the project management team, managing client expectations, driving subcontractor productivity, and ensuring compliance with all applicable project and regulatory requirements. The Lead Superintendent also plays a strategic role in planning and embraces innovation in a continually evolving construction landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforces site safety protocols, including pre-task planning, and holds primary responsibility for on-site safety compliance.
  • Supports business development and project pursuits, representing the organization in the healthcare construction sector.
  • Leads development of the overall project build strategy, workflow, and contributes to site logistics and phasing plans.
  • Oversees schedule development and updates; ensures activities remain on or ahead of schedule; coordinates and sequences subcontractor work to reduce conflicts and maintain labor harmony.
  • Coordinates with trade partners, permit holders, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure inspection compliance and alignment with scheduling, planning, and commissioning processes.
  • Assists in developing clear and accurate scopes of work and bid documents; participates in bid evaluations and post-bid interviews.
  • Partners with executive leadership on budget management and forecasting, helping control costs and monitor potential contractor changes.
  • Participates in project meetings (internal and external) to communicate field progress, challenges, and collaborate on solutions.
  • Ensures the work installed meets project quality standards.
  • Supports team success through mentorship and training, particularly for emerging Superintendents, and serves as a career advocate.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in healthcare construction on large, complex projects
  • Proven leadership on healthcare projects with a value of $500 million or more
  • At least 8 years of direct supervisory experience over project teams and trades
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Southeast U.S.
  • Strong understanding of regional construction practices and contractor networks
  • Effective negotiation skills for resolving field-related challenges with subcontractors, designers, and clients
  • OSHA 30 certification required
