Job Title: Controls Engineer

We’re partnered with an established electrical systems integrator based in San Antonio that has built a strong reputation for delivering engineered, reliable, and cost-effective control systems for industrial and commercial applications. With decades of experience in low and medium voltage systems, they specialize in solutions involving motor control panels, variable speed drives, PLC/DCS integration, and power distribution.

Position Overview:

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing high-performance motor control systems, ranging from basic motor starting panels to complex automation and monitoring setups. This is a hands-on engineering role involving electrical and mechanical interpretation of P&IDs, schematics, and control narratives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design both power and control logic circuits
• Develop mechanical layouts for control panels
• Select and size components, wiring, and overcurrent protection
• Calculate heat load and determine enclosure cooling requirements
• Create bill of materials (BOMs)
• Research emerging control technologies and evaluate supplier options
• Provide technical and field support as needed
• Collaborate with sales and support project design during pre-sales
• Train and assist wiring technicians during assembly
• Support system testing and final QA when required

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Strong understanding of motor controls, industrial automation, and power systems
• Ability to read and translate P&ID diagrams and process control narratives
• Experience in designing UL-rated control panels and electrical schematics
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with sales, field service, and technicians
• Passion for quality, detail, and delivering customer-focused solutions
