Role Description

The Dredge Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling dredge winches, pumps, hydraulics, and other dredging support equipment. This full-time, on-site role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a demanding marine and industrial environment

Qualifications

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on dredge winches, pumps, engines, gearboxes, and related hydraulic/mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, friction, and mechanical systems to identify issues and implement effective repairs.
• Inspect dredging equipment for safety, wear, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, Coast Guard, API standards as applicable).
• Conduct winch rebuilds, cable replacements, spooling, and alignment checks.
• Perform routine lubrication, adjustments, and calibration of dredge components.
• Maintain and repair diesel engines, hydraulic power units, gear drives, and auxiliary equipment used in dredging operations.
• Assist in the overhaul and modification of dredge machinery and support systems.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with crane and heavy equipment teams to support cross-functional projects and field operations.
• Operate tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting/rigging equipment safely and efficiently.
• Adhere to company safety policies and participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Stop Work Authority, and HSE compliance programs.
• Support emergency breakdown repairs to minimize downtime.
• Travel to job sites, dry docks, or offshore locations as required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of dredge winches, pumps, hydraulics, or heavy marine equipment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic and friction winch systems .
• Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic circuits, engines, gearboxes, and auxiliary systems.
• Skilled in working with heavy equipment, rigging practices, and safe lifting operations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
• Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, sometimes in remote or offshore environments.
• Willingness to work in variable conditions (offshore, shipyard, or dockside).
• Relevant certifications or training in hydraulics, mechanical systems, diesel engines, or marine equipment (preferred but not required).
• Valid TWIC card or ability to obtain one (a plus for offshore work).
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. (Must pass MVR)
