Overview

SubSeaSail®, Inc (SSS) is looking for an Electro-Mechanical R&D Technician to join our rapidly growing autonomous maritime robotics company. SSS will revolutionize human interaction with the ocean and ocean warfare. We are developing two lines of disruptively affordable, 100% energy harvesting (wind+solar), long-duration, ultra-low-signature, sailing Autonomous Undersea & Surface Vehicles (AUSVs) able to function above/below water down to 100 meters for extended periods. We are moving from hand-built to contract manufacturing to ramp production. 

We are looking for an Electro-Mechanical R&D Tech with a strong electrical and mechanical systems background. This person will be responsible for, but not limited to, performing all tasks in the areas of assembly/testing of maritime robotic vehicles and payload integration. 

Responsibilities:

· Assembling and disassembling vessel subsystems

· Performing component assembly inspections and complete documentation

· Wire harness assembly using soldering and crimping tools.

· Advising on the design of assemblies, components, and testing

· Setting up and utilizing test equipment, including digital multimeters, HIPOT testors, and power supplies

· Contributing to improving workshop standards, protocols, and processes

· Assist with the development or improvement of inspection or test techniques.

· Assist with the development, modification and documentation of actions to assure problem resolution or to implement corrective/preventive action.

· Integrate sensor payloads.

· Assist with internal audits.

· Assist in creating reports and coordinate with responsible parties for internal distribution.

Requirements:

· Sailing experience and able to swim .

· Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to work with customers and suppliers.

· Must be a self-starter able to work in a team.

· US Citizenship.

· Be able to qualify for and maintain a US Government security clearance.

· High School diploma or equivalent

· A minimum of 6 years of experience working in a manufacturing or technical environment.

· A minimum of 3+ years of experience with electronic hardware testing and troubleshooting.

· Proficiency using mechanical and electrical hand tools

· Proficiency using crimp tools for wiring harnesses

· Proficiency soldering SMT and through-hole components as well as wire to wire connections.

· Testing knowledge or experience with autonomous systems equipment and products. 

· Passion for product commercialization and driving innovation at a rapid pace.

· Highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and an effective communicator.

· Think broad, learn fast, take responsibility, act decisively and show critical sense.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • College degree or trade certificates
  • Experience with metal welding and composite fabrication.
  • Manual machining proficiency
  • Diving Certification
  • Customer service experience

 

MORE DETAILS YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW

  • This is a full-time, in-person position in our Midway District, San Diego, CA office (it could be part-time depending on the candidate and company needs).
  • You’ll report to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
  • Travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Compensation - Hourly range: $34-$45 (good-faith estimate, actual rate will depend on skills, experience and qualifications
  • Compensation - May be eligible for a discretionary equity grant
  • Benefits: Medical insurance, paid time off (vacation/holidays; paid sick leave in accordance with applicable California and local law; other benefits per company policy.

 

YOUR TEAM

This position will support a multi-disciplined team of engineers and subcontractors reporting to the Technical Program Manager and CTO. This team manages projects through an Agile workflow that allows maximum exposure to a variety of projects and systems within the group as a pre-Series A startup.

 

ABOUT US

The mission at SubSeaSail® is to produce two (HORUS™ & HERMES™) synergistic autonomous, disruptively affordable, easy-to-use, low signature, 100% energy harvesting, long-duration, submerging Autonomous Undersea & Surface Vehicles (AUSVs) capable above and below water down to 100 meters They will be used for an array of applications and are designed to be more convenient, economical, reliable, and sustainable with lower CAPEX and OPEX than other offerings. 

 

SSS currently has 16 employees with most working out of a 3,850 sq.ft. air-conditioned facility in the Midway District near Sports Arena. SSS tests vehicles in Mission Bay and offshore San Diego.
