Quality Assurance Paralegal – Remote or On Premises

The Derrick Law Firm is seeking a full-time temporary Quality Assurance & Training Paralegal to join the firm as an independent contractor either remotely or in one of its South Carolina offices for an engagement that is expected to last several months. This role will focus on helping the firm deliver excellent client service as part of its overall quality control processes.

The Paralegal(s) in this role will work closely with Paralegals in the firm’s Records & Bills, Health Insurance & Liens and Settlement departments.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Carefully reviewing cases that are approaching Demand to identify any deficiencies or impediments to Demand presentation or Settlement payout and communicating accordingly with appropriate colleagues;

· Reviewing the firm’s case management system to ensure appropriate documentation is in order;

· Reconciling damages, balances and liens;

· Advising colleagues regarding liens and special issues involving Medicare/Medicaid/ Tricare/VA if appropriate;

· Advising teams regarding Medicare set aside reports, special needs trusts and releases as appropriate;

· Advising teams regarding the disbursement of settlement funds and funds held in trust;

· Identifying areas in need of remediation for current employees and collaborating with the firm’s COO to coordinate appropriate training and resources to address them.

Desired skills include:

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as the role requires professional communication inside and outside the firm;

· Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills;

· Resourcefulness, with strong research skills;

· Previous experience in health insurance, medical billing, subrogation, legal case management or research-oriented roles is a plus;

· Previous experience with personal injury cases and settlements is a big plus;

· Previous experience with the Filevine case management system is a plus but not required;

· A comfort level with basic office equipment and the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

· Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and adapt accordingly;

· Highly organized with a meticulous attention to detail.

Compensation will be $23.00-$25.00 hourly, 35-40 hours per week, commensurate with skill set and/or relevant experience. Please be sure to include a cover letter with your resume.
