Mayor's Assistant Location Lawrenceburg, IN :

The Mayor's Assistant is a contract position who is responsible for managing the Mayor's daily schedule and providing administrative and clerical support to the Mayor. Additionally, this position is responsible for overseeing Citywide communications, including both external and internal mass communications, public information and outreach, public involvement, and media relations. A high level of discretion and sensitivity is required in successfully performing the duties of this job.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages Mayor's daily schedule, mail, email, and calls and provides administrative and clerical support to the Mayor.
  • Serves as liaison for the Mayor, Council, and City Administration.
  • Handles calls from the public, including providing information, assistance and referrals as well as relaying public concerns to the Mayor and City Administration.
  • Schedules and makes travel arrangements for the Mayor and City Officials' attendance at meetings, conferences, and special events.
  • Prepares materials for appointments, meeting and research materials for City initiatives.
  • Maintains records and files.
  • Manages City website, Kiosks and social media page(s).
  • Promote community outreach and coordination of Comprehensive Plan initiatives.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and effective community communications through Reach Alert.
  • Disseminates prompt, accurate emergency public information during emergency situations.
  • Promotes and markets the City's events and destination through multiple platforms on a local, regional, and state level.
  • Works with Lawrenceburg Main Street in planning and overseeing City Events.
  • Assists other departments as called upon by the Mayor with special events or initiatives.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality standards on behalf of the Mayor and City administration.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected Officials and Staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience with the responsibility of advising senior management staff on communications and public relations issues is preferred.
  • Experience working in a municipal environment preferred.
  • A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position will be considered.
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License.
  • Must have experience in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the public, employees, and City Officials.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
