Job Description

Position: Senior Data Engineer

Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Location: Cincinnati, OH (Hybrid Schedule)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to drive the strategy and execution of how manufacturing data is gathered, organized, and visualized. This role will influence the full data lifecycle—capturing signals from equipment and systems, transforming high-volume operational data, and making it available through reliable, insightful analytics.

This is a highly collaborative position that partners with operational leaders, engineering teams, and IT stakeholders. You will architect scalable data flows, enhance time-series data performance, and deliver dashboards that support operational excellence and continuous improvement. If you enjoy leading technical initiatives in environments that value precision, innovation, and efficiency, this role offers strong impact and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain configuration frameworks for collecting alarms, events, historian data, and other manufacturing data streams.
  • Engineer SQL-driven data pipelines to extract, process, and standardize raw operational data.
  • Define and govern metadata structures to preserve accuracy, traceability, and context.
  • Oversee administration, performance tuning, and reliability of reporting and BI platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to strengthen analytics and data infrastructure.
  • Develop intuitive dashboards and reporting tools that support frontline and leadership decision-making.
  • Lead cross-department data initiatives, particularly during facility expansions, system upgrades, or large-scale process changes.
  • Convert operational requirements and stakeholder input into detailed technical solutions.
  • Work with compliance and quality teams to ensure all data solutions meet regulatory and internal guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems.
  • At least 8 years of experience in data engineering, industrial data systems, or automation technologies.
  • Deep expertise in SQL, data modeling, and time-series architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong familiarity with manufacturing data ecosystems and operational technology environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and coordinate across technical and business teams.
  • Exceptional communication, documentation, and stakeholder-facing skills.

Ideal Traits for Success

  • Ability to conceptualize end-to-end systems and understand how data flows impact the broader manufacturing landscape.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with the capability to guide diverse teams toward common objectives.
  • Proactive approach to identifying process gaps, improvement opportunities, and potential innovations.
  • Skilled at reducing complex technical concepts into clear, concise explanations.
  • Balanced perspective—rigorous in technical execution while focused on measurable outcomes.
