Job Description

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) functions as a member of the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center (JMMMMC) Senior Leadership team to provide for the planning, provision, and allocation of functional resources necessary to carry out the operations for the promotion of outcomes focused nursing care treatment and services. The CNO has 24-hour accountability and responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating nursing care treatment and services. Ensures efficient, economic, and quality health care services to all patients served. Recommends administrative policy changes and consults with and advises JMMMMC CEO regarding Nursing Services operations. Responsible for communication with Nursing and clinical staff, Department leaders, Senior Leadership, other JMMMMC departments, and the community.

The CNO’s principle duties and responsibilities include:

• Committing to the mission and core values of JMMMMC.

• Establishing appropriate models of service delivery and identify areas of improvement.

• Encouraging collegial contact among hospital departments.

• Collaborating with Providers, Leadership, frontline staff, and vendors/contractors.

• Supporting and implementing the development of approved hospital wide patient care programs.

• Assuring the provision of nursing care in accordance with specialty, regulatory, and JMMMMC practice standards.

• Demonstrating knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards impacting clinical departments of oversight.

• Overseeing the Clinical Nursing Departments Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Plan.

• Facilitating the formulation and approval of Nursing Services annual goals and objectives in accordance with the JMMMMC strategic plan.

• Facilitating the formulation and approval of Nursing Services Clinical Departments Operational budgets.

• Working closely with fiscal services, medical records, case management, and directors to evaluate reimbursement practices and ensure that the most cost-effective procedures, drugs etc. are being utilized.

• Using quality improvement processes, programs and outcomes to improve department operations.

• Demonstrating knowledge of and following correct chain of command in handling management and patient care challenges, including crisis situations.

• Keeping informed of current issues including new procedures, developments and innovation. Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in the field of nursing.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have served a minimum of three years in a senior nursing leadership role, preferably in a Critical Access Hospital. The candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), a Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) is preferred. Must have a current Nebraska, or Compact State, Registered Nurse License. Must have strong communication skills and a history of progressive growth and development.

Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center (JMMMMC), located in Broken Bow, Nebraska, is comprised of a 23-bed critical access hospital, a 24-hour emergency room, 20-independent living apartments, a wide range of outpatient services and a 24-hour wellness center. It delivers caring and comprehensive services to the region, continuing a tradition of excellence while keeping patients close to home. JMMMMC provides a full continuum of care on an inpatient and outpatient basis, focusing on the mission of “Partnering with you to inspire healthy living through quality care”. The tradition of excellence and mission is supported by a team of over 110 healthcare professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional care.

The Community

Broken Bow is a wonderful community located in the “Center of It All” on scenic Highway 2, along the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway. Residency Requirement

The new CNO will be required to live in the Broken Bow School District.
