Lead AI Innovation & Engineering Strategy | Head of R&D at High-Growth SaaS Company

About the Role

Sera Systems is seeking a visionary Head of Research and Development to lead our engineering and product teams into the next era of AI-powered SaaS innovation. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, product strategy, and organizational scale .

You’ll own the full product and engineering lifecycle—from roadmap to release—while embedding AI-first thinking , modernizing legacy systems, and driving velocity across pods. Reporting directly to the CRO, you’ll help shape Sera into a category-defining platform for field service businesses.

What You’ll Do

• Set and execute the product + engineering roadmap aligned to company OKRs and customer impact.
• Lead technical strategy across Ruby on Rails, React, and modern architectures.
• Champion AI innovation , integrating LLMs, prompt engineering, and automation into workflows.
• Modernize legacy systems , driving modular, scalable, and AI-native architecture.
• Mentor and grow high-performing teams , including product managers and engineering leads.
• Own delivery rituals , sprint planning, architectural reviews, and product validation.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with GTM, CX, Design, and Executive leadership.
• Drive measurable outcomes , from product velocity to platform stability and business growth.

What You Bring

• 10+ years in full-stack SaaS engineering and product roles
• 5+ years in senior leadership (Head of Product/Engineering, CTO, etc.)
• 5+ years of hands-on Ruby on Rails experience
• 3+ years operationalizing AI/ML in commercial products
• Proven success launching products or overhauling systems that scaled revenue or unlocked new markets
• Experience in fast-paced environments (<100 employees)
• Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences
• Passion for building scalable, ethical, and explainable AI systems
