About the Company - McDowell Center For Children is a 28-bed residential treatment facility located in Dyersburg, Tennessee, for adolescent males experiencing mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. Our staff is made up of licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors who offer 24-hour support for our patients. We provide young men with the skills they need to improve their thinking patterns, make healthier choices, and create new futures with improved outlooks and outcomes.

Responsibilities -

• Plans, organizes, and directs medically approved activity programs for patients in the behavioral health setting
• Directs and organizes such activities as sports, dramatics, games, and arts and crafts to assist patients to develop interpersonal relationships, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities
• Regulates content of program in accordance with patients' capabilities, needs and interests
• Instructs patients in relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, concentration, and other activities, to reduce stress and tension
• Instructs patients in calisthenics, stretching and limbering exercises, and individual and group sports
• Counsels and encourages patients to develop leisure activities
• Prepares progress charts and periodic reports for medical staff and other members of treatment team, reflecting patients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression
• May supervise and conduct in-service training of other staff members, review their assessments and program goals, and consult with them on selected cases
• May train other members of the interdisciplinary team in techniques of activity therapy

• Qualifications:

• Must have good knowledge of the English Language.
• Must be computer literate. Prefer experience with Microsoft Office or similar products.
• Willingness to cross train in other areas.
• Previous experience or training in providing structured activities.
• Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to McDowell Center for Children’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, attendance at/required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.

Education:

• High School diploma, GED or Higher Education required
• Current CPR
• Must have and maintain current CPR certification, according to unit specific needs. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program.

Required Skills:

• One year experience in working with a mental health population.
• Knowledge of treatment programs, leisure education, social skill development, arts, and sports needed, as well as knowledge and experience with behavior management procedures.
